The pathway covers more than 260 km of main road between Picton and Farewell Spit. It also includes nine side trails to special areas such as the curious coves of The Marlborough Sounds, and New Zealand's newest national park, Kahurangi.
Marlborough and Nelson have been natural treasure troves for over eight centuries: the source of precious minerals like pakohe (argillite) and gold, and abundant harvests that have sustained both Maori and European settlement. Many of the roads that now traverse this fascinating part of New Zealand follow trails established in earlier times. To travel the Treasured Pathway is to journey through a rich human and natural story. It is to discover the charm, diversity and beauty of this country and to know the courage and determination of those who came here to call it home. Retrace the pathways of the ancestors - nga haerenga o nga tupuna - through time and beautiful country, all at your own pace.
